Women Bear The Brunt of the Cuts

It’s an amazing fact that of the billions of pounds of cuts women will face an astonishing 72% of them. (from an equality audit carried out by Yvette Cooper the Shadow Secretary of State ) And this is what Cameron calls FAIR FOR ALL.
So why is this happening? Well to start with, over 65% of public sector workers are women and the most likely to lose their jobs due to the cuts.
More women will be affected by housing benefit cuts, and fewer will gain from the increase in the personal tax allowance.
Add to that the cutting of the Health in Pregnancy allowance will affect 800,000 women at a cost of £150 million, and guess how many men You’ve got it ZERO
Sure Start maternity grants are going and child benefit frozen for 3 years
AND the change from RPI to CPI for calculating pensions will affect women pensioners who, remember, live longer thin men and very often live on their own.
This goes along with the reduction next year of the winter fuel allowance Anyone over 80 will face a cut from £400 to £300 at a time when fuel prices are set to rise again.
So women get hit all ways; required to work longer, to look for jobs when their children start school , that is if there are jobs out there to find and reduced incomes all round
FAIR FOR ALL? I THINK NOT

Chelmsford against the Cuts

Academies

If your school had an outstanding Ofsted report the governors can apply for academy status starting in September of this year. However this may not be legal as the Bill will not have been passed by then
Academies are not good news for teaching staff. You will not be covered by the National Pay and Conditions document and so could be working longer hours for less pay

To find our more visit the Anti Academy Alliance site at www.antiacademies.org.uk where you can find out useful information and download a petition

LET THE SECRETARY KNOW IF YOUR SCHOOL IS THINKING OF BECOMING AN ACADEMY

Planning

The Union has just issued an excellent leaflet giving advice to members on short term, medium and long term planning

They say re long and medium term planning, " It is not reasonable to expect teachers to write new plans for every group or cohort of pupils. Plans can be stored and revised and, often, only minor amendment is necessary. "

They also draw attention to the range of high quality material for all primary core and foundation subjects available on the Internet, including Teachernet (www.teachernet.gov.uk/Useful_Lesson_Plans_And_ Resources )
Schemes of work identical to those published by QCA are available on the Standards Site (www.standards.dfee.gov.uk/schemes/)
